@JamieMc1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printhead Errors on HP Smart Tank 7300!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When encountering printhead errors on your HP Smart Tank 7300 printer, such as the printhead not aligning or the printer freezing, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Determine Which Printhead Caused the Error

  1. Check the Display or Control Panel:
    • If the Tri-color printhead icon blinks, the error is related to the Tri-color printhead.
    • If the Black printhead icon blinks, the error is related to the Black printhead.
    • If both printhead icons blink, both printheads are causing the error.

Steps to Check and Reinstall the Printheads

Lift the Ink Access Door:

  • Wait for the printer carriage to stop moving.
  • Make sure the printhead cover is closed. If open, close it and retry printing. If the error persists, continue the steps below.

Open the Printhead Cover:

  • Press the blue button on the printhead carriage to open the printhead cover.

Remove and Reinsert the Printhead:

  • For the printhead with the error, press down to release it and pull it out.
  • Ensure plugs and tape on the new printhead are removed before reinsertion.
  • Insert the printhead into the slot until it snaps into place.

Close the Printhead Cover and Ink Access Door: Closing the ink access door

Align the Printheads:

  • For printers with touchscreens, follow control panel prompts to print an Alignment Page, and follow instructions for alignment.
  • For printers without touchscreens, an Alignment Page prints automatically. Follow the instructions for alignment.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
