@wend70, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP printer is having trouble detecting the printhead. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Reseat the Printhead:

  • Open the printer's access door to the ink cartridges.
  • Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Lift the carriage latch and slightly lift the printhead, then lower it back into the carriage.
  • Wiggle the printhead left and right, then lower the carriage latch to lock it in place.
  • Close the ink cartridge access door and reconnect the power cord.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Clean the Printhead Contacts:

  • Remove the printhead from the printer.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if your printer's firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can cause detection issues. Visit HP Support to download and install the latest firmware
