Hi @Peter5784,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The black horizontal lines on your HP LaserJet MFP M175a printer could be caused by several issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and fix the problem.

Check the Toner Cartridge:

  • Horizontal lines can sometimes be caused by toner buildup or damage inside the toner cartridge. Try removing the toner cartridge and gently shaking it side to side to redistribute the toner inside.
  • Inspect the toner cartridge for any damage or leaks. If necessary, replace the toner cartridge.

Clean the Printer:

  • Dust and toner buildup on the drum or other parts inside the printer can cause print quality issues. Clean the drum, rollers, and other accessible parts of the printer using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Be careful not to touch the drum with your fingers, as this can damage it.

Check the Paper Path:

  • Inspect the paper tray and paper rollers for any debris, and make sure the paper is not wrinkled or damp. Misaligned or damaged paper can sometimes cause lines to appear when printing.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes corrupted or outdated drivers can cause printing issues. You can visit HP's website to download the latest drivers for your printer.

Run a Printer Diagnostic:

  • HP printers usually have built-in diagnostics. You can run a test page or use the printer’s software to diagnose and resolve printing issues.

Replace the Drum:

  • If the problem persists, the imaging drum (inside the toner cartridge) might be damaged or worn out. The drum is responsible for transferring the toner onto the paper, and if it’s defective, it could cause lines to appear on prints. Consider replacing the drum if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
