Hi @cferg598 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer's ink system. This error message usually indicates a problem with either the printer hardware or the ink cartridges.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Restart the Printer: Follow the instructions and turn the printer off, then on again. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve temporary glitches.
  • Check Ink Cartridges: Open the printer cover and ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated correctly. Also, check if any of the cartridges are low on ink or empty. If necessary, replace any empty cartridges with genuine HP cartridges.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and remove the ink cartridges. Clean the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Make sure they are dry before reinserting them.
  • Reset the Printer: Some HP printers have a reset option in the menu settings. You can try resetting the printer to its factory defaults to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs and improve printer performance.  Update the firmware on an HP printer
