Hi @Paris38

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

This message usually appears when the printer sensors aren’t detecting the paper correctly, even if the tray is full.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help your printer recognize the paper and get back to printing smoothly.

Step-by-step actions to resolve the “Load Plain Paper” message

Remove and reload the paper

  • Take out all paper from the tray.
  • Fan the stack gently to prevent sheets from sticking together.
  • Reload the paper, making sure it’s aligned properly and not overfilled.
  • Adjust the paper width guides so they touch the edges of the paper without bending it.

Check paper type and quality

  • Use clean, unused plain white paper—avoid glossy, folded, or curled sheets.
  • Make sure the paper is within the supported size and weight range for your printer.

Inspect the paper tray and rollers

  • Look inside the tray for any debris or misaligned components.
  • Clean the paper feed rollers using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Let the rollers dry completely before reloading paper.

Reset the printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try printing again to see if the message clears.

Update firmware

Run a paper feed diagnostic

  • Open the HP App on your PC or mobile device.
  • Select your printer > Printer Settings > Tools > Clean Paper Feed
  • This helps recalibrate the feed mechanism.

These steps should help your printer detect the paper correctly and resume printing without interruptions. If the issue persists after cleaning and resetting, I can guide you through checking the sensor alignment or performing a deeper hardware check.

Let me know how it goes—I’m here to help you get that page out, crisp and clean.
