purchased a used 8610. product works as designed. however, been receiving warning messages "soon you wont be able to print..visit HP smart site and resolve account". My guess is whomever the prior owner was, used the instant ink option. Im not and dont plan on it. i cannot find any support to resolve this issue. Please advise.

You need to ensure that the previous owner deleted the printer from their account and also that the instant ink cartridges have been replaced with regular retail cartridges. Just replacing the cartridges should allow you to keep printing.

Thanks for the response. Printer came with no ink so cartridges are indeed new and not instant ink cartridges. I contacted instant ink and they would not speak to me but did indeed confirm it is an account problem with the old owner. I have reached out to the old owner and am waiting on a response. actually, i initiated a return through Ebay's guarantee program so he will pay attention and respond. Again, thank you.
