HP office jet pro 7740

I use an HP office jet pro 7740  with MacOS and iOS via WiFi. Sometimes maybe once a day it will stop working and it displays bluescreen with "B8C1AD9C" error. I have to restart everything to make it work again. Can someone tell me what causes this error?

Hi @ChristosRHO,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "B8C1AD9C" error code on an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer, along with a blue screen, typically indicates a firmware or hardware issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue.

Update Printer Firmware

Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. HP periodically releases firmware updates that can resolve known issues.

Via Printer Control Panel:

  1. From the home screen on the printer's control panel, touch the "Setup" icon.
  2. Navigate to "Printer Maintenance" or "Printer Update".
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to check for and install updates.

Via HP Smart App:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your Mac or iOS device.
  2. Select your printer, then go to "Advanced Settings" or "Printer Homepage".
  3. Look for firmware updates and follow the instructions.

Check Network Connection

Intermittent WiFi connections can cause communication issues.

  • Ensure your printer is within range of your WiFi router.
  • Check for any network interruptions or interference.
  • Try using a different WiFi channel on your router to avoid congestion.

Restart Devices

Since you've mentioned that restarting everything works, it’s worth performing a systematic restart:

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Restart your WiFi router.
  3. Restart your Mac and iOS devices.
  4. Plug your printer back in and turn it on after the other devices have restarted.

Reset Network Settings on the Printer

Resetting the network settings can help resolve connection issues.

  1. From the printer control panel, touch the "Setup" icon.
  2. Navigate to "Network Setup" and then "Restore Network Settings".

Reinstall Printer Software

Sometimes, reinstalling the printer driver and software can help resolve errors.

On MacOS:

  1. Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners".
  2. Select your printer and click the "-" button to remove it.
  3. Download and install the latest software and drivers from the HP website.
  4. Add your printer again using the "+" button.

On iOS:

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Remove the printer from the app.
  3. Re-add the printer by following the setup instructions.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially resolve the issue causing the blue screen error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
