I have an office jet 6700. I bought all new ink and the printer perfectly accepted the first two cartridges, but the third cartridge it said is damaged. The ink is brand new. It is not damaged. I did a hard reset on the printer and even cleaned the cartridge. It still says damaged cartridge and will not allow me to print because of it.

@HaleyHoo, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your "Cartridge Problem" error message!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're encountering a "Cartridge Problem" error on your HP OfficeJet 6700 printer, even after purchasing new ink cartridges and performing a hard reset and cleaning, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that all the ink cartridges are properly installed in their correct slots. Match the shape of the icon and color of the ink cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color.
  • Press down on the cartridges to ensure they are securely seated.

Clean Electrical Contacts:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center.
  • Remove the problematic ink cartridge.
  • Locate the electrical contacts on the ink cartridge (small copper or gold-colored metal contacts) and on the printhead inside the printer.
  • Clean the contacts using a dry, lint-free cloth or swab. Ensure that you wipe away from the nozzles and avoid touching the contacts with your fingers.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridge and close the ink cartridge access door.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging the power cord back in.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error message persists.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
