What is a "SUPPLY SYSTEM PROBLEM"?
I am using my Instant Ink YELLOW Cartridge and it is being rejected - no matter what Instant Ink cartridge I try (I have 3 Yellow - all rejected)
I tried a new store-boaught YELLOW and it too was rejected...
WHY?
HELP!

Hi @PHDatBVMS,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is showing a “SUPPLY SYSTEM PROBLEM” error and rejecting all yellow cartridges, including both Instant Ink and store-bought ones. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.
1. Power Reset the Printer
Make sure the printer is ON.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
Wait for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord directly into the wall (not a surge protector) and then into the printer.
Turn the printer back on.
This helps clear temporary errors in the supply system.
2. Inspect the Cartridges
Remove all cartridges from the printer.
Check the yellow cartridges (both Instant Ink and store-bought):
Look for any visible damage, leaks, or bent contacts.
Ensure the protective orange cap or tape has been completely removed.
Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
Let them dry for a few minutes.
3. Reseat the Cartridges
Insert the yellow cartridge first, making sure it clicks securely into place.
Then insert the remaining cartridges one at a time.
Close the access door and check if the error clears.
Improper seating or dust on the contacts often triggers supply system errors.
4. Update Printer Firmware
On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer (or use the HP Smart app on your PC).
Make sure the printer has the latest firmware.
Firmware updates often fix cartridge recognition issues, especially for Instant Ink models.
5. Check for Mixed Cartridge Types
Ensure all cartridges installed are either Instant Ink or standard HP cartridges.
Avoid mixing Instant Ink and store-bought cartridges in the same printer.
Some models can reject cartridges if the set is mixed.
I hope this helps.
