"Use SETUP cartridges" error message

My printer (6 months old) displays the "Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer" error message.   I tried reinstalling ink cartridges, installing setup cartridges, and resetting the printer by unplugging it for 60 seconds.  However, none resolved the error message.  How do I bypass the error message?
