Welcome to HP Support Community, @Abc9120

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot and fix the Hatch Open error on your HP ScanJet N9120:

1. Check the Hatch (ADF Cover)

Make sure the ADF hatch/cover is fully closed.

Push firmly on both sides of the hatch until you hear a click, confirming that it is securely latched.

2. Restart (Power Cycle) the Scanner

Turn off the scanner using the Power button.

Wait for 30 seconds to clear any internal error.

Turn the scanner back on and check if the error disappears.

3. Inspect for Obstructions

Open the hatch again and inspect for:

Paper fragments

Dust buildup

Misaligned springs or plastic tabs

Remove any debris that may prevent the latch from closing completely.

4. Check the Hatch Sensor

If the error still appears:

Look at the hatch sensor area (usually a small plastic flag or switch near the hinge).

Ensure:

The flag is not broken.

The sensor is not stuck or blocked.

The plastic latch isn’t loose or damaged.

5. Reset the Scanner Through the Software (Optional)

If you use HP ScanJet Maintenance Utility, run a hardware check.

Restarting the scanner through software can sometimes clear sensor-related false errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
