@MNTim There are a few steps that should help resolve this issue:

 

Step 1: Reset the printer

Resetting the printer might clear the error message.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  1. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  2. Wait 60 seconds.

  3. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    NOTE: 

    HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  4. Turn the printer on.

If the error message persists, continue to the next step.

Thanks for the reply Riddle_Decipher. I had tried all of those steps but nothing worked. We've decided that it had lived a good life and can now go to the Big Landfill.

@MNTim I'm afraid you are right about it having a good life so far, as that is a hardware malfunction if the suggested steps haven't helps, 

That said, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

 

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
