@Norahjean, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
The E3 error on your HP printer typically indicates a carriage jam, this means the ink cartridge carriage is stuck or obstructed and cannot move freely.
Here’s how you can resolve it:
Turn off the printer
- Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
Check for obstructions
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Look inside for any paper jams, foreign objects, or loose cartridges.
- Gently move the carriage left and right to ensure it moves freely.
Remove and reinsert cartridges
- Take out the ink cartridges.
- Check for any protective tape or debris.
- Reinsert them securely.
Reset the printer
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
- Turn the printer back on.
Try a test print
- If the error clears, try printing a test page.
- If the error persists, proceed to the next step.
