@dmp19, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Amber Lights on HP DeskJet 4158 Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When you replace a cartridge and the amber lights continue to flash, this usually indicates a problem with the cartridge or its installation. Given that you've replaced the HP 67XL cartridge with an HP 67/305 cartridge, there might be an issue with compatibility or installation. Here's what you can try:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the HP 67/305 cartridge is compatible with your HP DeskJet 4158 printer. The HP 67XL and HP 67 are typically compatible, but there might be a region-specific or model-specific difference with the HP 305.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the cartridge.
  • Check the electrical contacts (the copper-colored areas) on the cartridge and in the printer for any debris or residue.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts in the printer.
  • Let the contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

Restart the Printer:

  • Reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it on.
  • Check if the amber lights have stopped flashing.

Reset the Printer:

  • If the issue persists, try a printer reset: unplug the power cord from the printer while the printer is turned on, wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
