Hi @tomtom1234562 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error message you’re encountering typically indicates an issue with the newly installed cartridge. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure that the replacement cartridge is the correct type for the HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer - G510g.
  • The compatible cartridges for this printer are HP 901 Black and HP 901 Tri-color (standard or XL versions).

2. Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer's front cover and remove the cartridge.
  • Check for any protective tape on the cartridge's copper contacts or ink nozzles. If present, remove it carefully.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly into its slot (black on the right, color on the left).
  • Close the printer cover and plug the printer back in.

3. Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinserting the cartridge.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

5. Check for Printer Errors

  • If the error persists, check the printer screen or software for additional error codes or messages.
  • If there’s a specific error code, let me know, and I can provide more targeted troubleshooting.

6. Use Another Cartridge

  • If you have another compatible cartridge, try installing it to determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer itself.

7. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Download and install the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.

8. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Hold the # and 3 buttons on the printer's control panel while plugging it back in.
  • Release the buttons when the printer powers on.
