Hi @Natalie132, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A printhead error on the HP Smart Tank 7305 All-in-One printer can be caused by various factors, such as improper installation, clogged nozzles, or faulty printheads. Here’s how you can fix it:

Step 1: Check for Error Messages

If your printer displays a specific printhead error message, note it down as it can help in troubleshooting.

Step 2: Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Check if the error is resolved.

Step 3: Reseat the Printheads

  1. Open the front door and wait for the printhead carriage to move to the center.
  2. Lift the printhead latch.
  3. Remove both black and tri-color printheads carefully.
  4. Reinsert the printheads securely and close the latch.
  5. Close the front cover and restart the printer.

Step 4: Clean the Printheads

If the error persists, the printheads might be clogged.

  1. Open the HP Smart app or printer software.
  2. Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Clean Printheads.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to run a cleaning cycle.

Alternatively, you can manually clean the printhead contacts:

  1. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  2. Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the printheads and inside the carriage.
  3. Let it dry for a few minutes before reinserting.

Step 5: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit HP Support.
  2. Search for Smart Tank 7305 and download the latest firmware.
  3. Install it and restart the printer.

Step 6: Replace the Printheads

If the error persists, the printheads might be defective. You may need to replace them with new printheads.
