Hi @Chicboy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 5106 printer is experiencing a printhead issue. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the problem.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.

Reseat the Printhead:

  • Make sure the printhead is correctly installed.
  • Open the printer cover and remove the printhead again.
  • Carefully reinstall it, ensuring it clicks into place securely.

Clean the Printhead Manually:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the printhead and gently clean the contacts on the printhead and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the printhead.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer can help clear errors.
  • Refer to the printer's manual for specific reset instructions.

Use the HP Smart App Correctly:

  • Ensure no other jobs are queued up or currently in progress.
  • If the app says "printer engaged," try cancelling all print jobs and restart the app.
  • Go to the app settings and attempt to clean the printhead again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
