the front door opens fine, however you may notive the cartridges may b estuco to the left, and/or, th etop door not open, appears to be stuck near the power button.  After a few hours, figured it's this tiny piece called "door activator", it looks like tiny clip/plastic hook that doesnt hook to anything.  true, it does not.  the plastic tab closes down into the rectangular hole.   inside that hole is an angled piece of plastic. THAT is the "door activator".  use the end of a pen cap to push down into the hole, with some pressure pulling toward yourself,,,that will open the door latch. and bingo, top door opens.    When closing, do similar, use the pen cap to to depress that little switch again inside the hole..    That will allow you to bring the top door "flush" as intended.   Problem: the platic "tab" may be brken, so that's why it can't move the "door activator".   it seems simple, and it is.   My problem occured when the printer fell, and the little tab piece broke.  i went to fix a paper jam weeks later, and door wouldnt open.     "hp printer door activator".  That was the solution here.

Hi @CoverMe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’ve found a creative way to resolve a common issue with the HP OfficeJet 9010 All-in-One printer’s top door latch, especially after the plastic tab that operates the "door activator" mechanism breaks.

Here's a quick breakdown of your fix and a few additional tips in case anyone else encounters the same problem.

  • Problem Identification: The top door becomes stuck due to the broken plastic tab (also known as the "door activator"). When this tab breaks, the mechanism inside the printer can no longer function properly, causing the top door to stay closed.
  • Temporary Fix: Using the end of a pen cap to press down on the angled piece of plastic inside the rectangular hole can manually activate the latch, allowing the top door to open and close again. This is essentially bypassing the broken tab.
  • Permanent Solution: To fully resolve this issue, you may need to replace the broken plastic tab. Unfortunately, such small components might not be available as standalone parts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
