Hi @dustdevil1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with inconsistent print quality on your HP 5010. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check Ink Levels and Cartridges:

  • Even though you mentioned the ink is adequate, it’s worth verifying that the cartridges are properly installed and not clogged or dried out. Remove and reinsert them to ensure a good connection.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Most HP printers have a printhead cleaning option. You can usually find this in the printer settings on your computer or through the printer’s control panel. Run the cleaning cycle to clear any blockages.

Align the Printhead:

  • Perform a printhead alignment from the printer’s settings menu. This helps ensure that the printhead is correctly aligned with the paper.

Check for Paper Issues:

  • Make sure you're using the right type and size of paper for your printer. Also, check for any paper jams or debris inside the printer.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Sometimes outdated or corrupt drivers can cause printing issues. Check HP’s website for the latest drivers for your printer and reinstall them if necessary.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Print a Test Page:

  • Most printers allow you to print a diagnostic test page. This can help you determine if the problem is related to specific colors or if it's a more general issue with the printhead.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
