I added new ink cartridges to my hp officejet pro 8710 printer. the magenta and yellow colors show depletion  (after buying two new cartridges) so I know the ink is not faulty- and a message appears saying "supply system low" which results in not being able to print anything. please help.

I already restarted the computer, turned it off and then on, cleaned the inside, reinserted the cartridges and nothing seems to work

@astewart2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding "Supply System Low" Issue on HP OfficeJet Pro 8710!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer is showing a "Supply System Low" message and new magenta and yellow cartridges are still displaying as depleted, follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

1. Check for Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure you are using the correct cartridges for your printer. The supported cartridge numbers should match those required by your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. Dynamic security enabled printers only work with cartridges using HP original chips.

2. Reset the Printer

Perform a reset by turning off the printer, unplugging the power cord, waiting for about 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

3. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and open the access door.
  • Remove the affected cartridges.
  • Clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Wipe off any residue and ensure the contacts are dry before reinserting the cartridges.

4. Check the Ink Status from the Printer's Front Panel

  • Swipe down the dashboard on the front panel to view ink levels. Ensure the newly installed cartridges show full or sufficient ink levels.

5. Firmware Update

Ensure your printer firmware is up to date as it can help resolve issues related to ink cartridge recognition:

  • Go to HP's official website.
  • Navigate to the support section.
  • Check for firmware updates for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.

6. Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset may help in resolving the issue:

  • Navigate to the printer's settings through the front panel.
  • Select 'Restore Factory Defaults.'
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the reset procedure.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
