Hi @lakedawg-24_,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 where the printhead assembly does not stop moving when you open the panel to replace or insert the printhead. This can happen due to several reasons, such as a mechanical issue or the printer being in an error state.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this.
Power Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check if the printhead assembly stops when the panel is opened.
Check for Obstructions:
- Ensure that there are no obstructions in the printer that might be causing the printhead to keep moving. Look around the path where the printhead moves to ensure it is clear.
Manual Positioning:
- With the printer powered off, gently move the printhead assembly (if it’s not locked in place) to a central position. Then try opening the panel again to insert the printhead.
Printer Reset:
- If the issue persists, perform a hard reset of the printer through the menu options or a factory reset. Sometimes, this can resolve electronic control issues.
Check the Printhead Assembly:
- Make sure that the printhead is properly installed and that the assembly mechanism isn’t stuck or malfunctioning.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
