Hi @WildEats,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the details. A white or blank touchscreen on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 usually means the display hardware or the firmware controlling it has failed. Here’s what you can do:

Step 1: Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the screen responds.

Step 2: Firmware Recovery (Blind Update)

Even if the screen is blank, the printer might still accept a firmware update:

Step 3: Use Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the printer is still connected to your network:

  • Find its IP address from your router.
  • Enter the IP in a browser to access the printer’s settings.
  • From there, you can check the status or update firmware.

Step 4: Hardware Check

If the screen stays white after a reset and firmware update:

  • The touchscreen assembly or logic board has likely failed.
  • This requires HP service or a replacement part.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
