Hi @Crazych3f

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet 6958 still shows “There is a problem with the printer or print system” after clearing a paper jam and trying all suggested steps, it may be stuck in a fault state. A full hardware reset and internal inspection can help restore functionality.

Here’s a focused guide to help bring your printer back online:

1. Perform a Full Power Drain Reset

This clears residual errors from the print system:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  • Disconnect all cables, including USB and Ethernet.
  • Wait 2 minutes.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 60 seconds while unplugged.
  • Plug it back in and power on.

If the error persists, continue with the next steps.

2. Inspect All Paper Paths Thoroughly

Even a small shred of paper can trigger persistent errors:

  • Open the rear access door, input tray, and carriage area.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect for:
    • Torn paper bits
    • Jammed rollers
    • Stuck carriage or debris near the ink cartridges
  • Gently rotate the rollers with your fingers to check for smooth movement.

3. Reset the Ink Carriage Mechanism

Sometimes the carriage doesn’t fully reinitialize:

  • Power off the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Manually slide the ink carriage to the left and right.
  • Close the door and power on.

4. Run HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

This tool checks for internal faults and resets the print system:

  • Download it from the HP Diagnose & Fix page.
  • Install and run the tool on your Windows PC.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to scan and repair.

5. Update Firmware via USB

If the printer won’t connect wirelessly:

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. If the error persists, I can help you isolate whether it’s a sensor fault, carriage lock, or deeper firmware issue.
