I have an Envy 7100, linked to an iMac on OS Catalina 10.15.7. With the HP 303 black cartridge showing full in Supplies Status, trying to print a document I'm faced on the printer's LCD, for the first time in all the years we've had the machine, with the message Cannot print. Visit www.hpinstantink.com for information. We used to subscribe to instantink, but cancelled it years ago, and have no intention of going back on it. Putting a fresh black cartridge in the printer hasn't helped. What do I do?

Hi @Hewpal

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems that your HP Envy 7100 printer is trying to prompt you to re-enroll in the HP Instant Ink program even though you've already canceled it. This can happen because the printer still has the subscription information stored in its system, and it may be blocking printing until you resolve the Instant Ink-related issue. Since you've already replaced the black ink cartridge and the message persists, here are a few steps to fix it:

1. Check Instant Ink Status

  • The printer is likely still trying to access the Instant Ink system, which is causing the "Cannot print" message.
  • Even though you've canceled Instant Ink, the printer may still be looking for the Instant Ink subscription or using a replaced Instant Ink cartridge.
  • Make sure that the Instant Ink subscription is completely canceled on the HP Instant Ink website:
    www.hpinstantink.com

2. Remove HP Instant Ink Setup from Printer

  • Sometimes, even after canceling Instant Ink, your printer might still be linked to the service. To fix this:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
    3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
    4. This might reset any lingering Instant Ink settings, and the printer should allow printing again.

3. Check for Instant Ink Message in Printer Menu

  • If the "Cannot Print" message still appears, go to the printer’s Control Panel or LCD screen menu.
  • Navigate to the Instant Ink settings or Ink management section. You may need to manually remove the subscription or reset the ink settings.
  • If you see any prompts asking for an Instant Ink enrollment, choose to cancel or remove it.

4. Use the HP Printer Software

  • Since you're using an iMac, open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Utility on your computer.
    • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your HP Envy 7100 and then open HP Utility or HP Smart.
    • Look for an option to disable or remove the Instant Ink subscription from the printer settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
