Hi @sdw123

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing what you're facing—I'm truly sorry you're seeing a toner cartridge missing error. It’s incredibly frustrating when everything else seems ready to print but the printer refuses to recognize a cartridge.

Let’s walk through a few focused steps to help restore full functionality.

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  5. Turn the printer back on and check the control panel for changes.

This helps reset internal memory and may clear detection errors.

Step 2: Reseat the Toner Cartridge

  1. Open the toner access door and gently remove the cartridge showing as missing.
  2. Inspect the cartridge for:
    • Any protective tape or seals that may not have been removed.
    • Dust or debris on the contact points.
  3. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  4. Close the access door and wait for the printer to initialize.

Step 3: Confirm Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure the toner cartridge matches your printer model exactly.
  • If you’re using a multi-pack, try swapping with another cartridge of the same color if available.

Step 4: Print a Supplies Status Page

  1. On the printer control panel, navigate to Reports → Supplies Status Page.
  2. Print the page and check if the cartridge is listed as installed and full.

Step 5: Use the HP App for Guided Troubleshooting

Download the HP App from: https://www.hp.com/in-en/shop/apps/hp-app.html

Open the app and add your printer.

Go to Printer Maintenance → Troubleshooting → Supplies and Cartridge Issues.

Let me know how it goes after these steps. You’re doing everything right by checking early—let’s bring your printer back to life and get your pages flowing again.
