my HP envy 5661 Printer is not shutting down, all you see is the circle going around & around saying shutting down. I’ve looked at the manual counting to figure it out, have disconnected it that’s not working. Does anybody know what to do?

Hi @Home510,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 5661 printer seems to be stuck in the "shutting down" process with the circle spinning endlessly, there are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Forced Shutdown:

  • Unplug: Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 15 seconds. This should drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect: Plug the power cord back in and try turning it on again.

Soft Reset:

  • Turn Off: If the printer is on, turn it off using the power button.
  • Disconnect Power: Unplug the power cord from the printer and wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect and Turn On: Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on. Check if it starts up properly.

Clear Print Jobs (If applicable):

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause issues. Clear any pending print jobs from the print queue.
    • Go to Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (Mac).
    • Find the Printers section.
    • Locate your HP Envy 5661, right-click (or Control + Click on Mac), and choose "See what's printing" or "Open Print Queue."
    • Delete any pending print jobs.

Firmware Update:

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually do this through the printer's settings menu or the HP website.
    • Visit the HP Support website, enter your printer model, and look for firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
