My HP Envy 7640 worked with my new Laptop Lenovo until we got a new router from Spectrum. Now for some unknown reason I can not get my printer to load back on to my computer. Can someone give me some step by step procedure to get my printer work with my computer again?

@Mikeb11194, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy 7640!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer suddenly stops working after a router change. Don’t worry—I’ll help you get your HP Envy 7640 connected to your Lenovo laptop again. Just follow these steps, and we’ll have your printer up and running in no time!

Restart Everything

Sometimes, a simple restart can do wonders. Try this first:

  1. Turn off your printer, laptop, and router.
  2. Wait for about a minute.
  3. Turn on your router first and wait for it to fully boot up.
  4. Turn on your printer and laptop.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

Since you have a new router, you’ll need to reconnect your printer to the network:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, tap the Wireless icon (or go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings).
  2. Select Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to connect to your new Wi-Fi network.
  3. Make sure you’re selecting the correct Wi-Fi name (SSID) and entering the correct password.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer on Your Laptop

Once your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, let’s make sure your laptop recognizes it:

  1. On your Lenovo laptop, press Windows + R, type control printers, and hit Enter.
  2. Right-click on your HP Envy 7640 and select Remove device.
  3. Now, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and click Add a printer or scanner.
  4. Wait for your printer to appear and select it to install.

Update or Reinstall HP Printer Drivers

If your printer still doesn’t work, updating or reinstalling drivers might help:

  1. Visit the HP Support Website.
  2. Enter HP Envy 7640 in the search bar and go to Software & Drivers.
  3. Download and install the latest Full Feature Driver for your printer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Test the Printer

  1. Try printing a test page from your laptop.
  2. If the printer isn’t responding, restart both your laptop and printer one more time and check if it works.

Let me know if you run into any issues along the way—I’m happy to help further! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
