HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer

LaserJet MF140we not printing neither with WiFi (not connecting) nor USB! Shows 49 in page box. Have followed everything on hp doctor. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Cleared all cookies. No idea why not working, other than had signed up to Instant Ink and had turned off electricity to printer while I was on holiday for a couple of weeks.

Hi @R_365,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the "49" error code on HP printers, which typically indicates a firmware issue. Given that you've already tried various troubleshooting steps including reinstalling software and clearing cookies,

here are some additional steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before reconnecting and turning it back on.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the "Cancel" button (X) and the "Wireless" button (or "WiFi" button) while turning the printer back on.
  • Release the buttons when the attention light blinks.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Connect the printer to your

computer using a USB cable.

  • Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model (HP LaserJet MFP M140we).
  • Download the latest firmware update for your printer model and follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Check Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download them from the HP support website as well.
  • After downloading, install the drivers and restart your computer and printer.

Verify Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your WiFi network is functioning properly.
  • Reconnect the printer to your WiFi network by using the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
  • Make sure the printer is within range of the WiFi signal and that there are no obstructions.

Disable Instant Ink (Temporarily):

  • Log in to your HP Instant Ink account and temporarily disable the Instant Ink service.
  • Sometimes the Instant Ink service can interfere with printing if there are issues with the subscription or connectivity.

Check for Paper Jams and Toner Issues:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or issues with the toner cartridge.
  • Remove and reinsert the toner cartridge to ensure it is seated properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Unfortunately, it seems that the problem is unfixable. hp doesn't repair consumer products and, although my bundled package warranty is in date online, it won't be upheld without proof of purchase. I'm waiting for the shop to track down my purchase receipt and have asked hp to add a digital receipt to the online app.
