HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I just got a new computer using Windows 11.  When I try to print a document, I get a false paper jam error.  The printer works fine on my old Windows 7 machine, and it will print diagnostic sheets without a problem.  I have checked for updates and the printer software and drivers are all indicated to be up to date.  What is the solution for this mystery?

Hi @dldave

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 4655 is giving you a false paper jam error when printing from your new Windows 11 computer, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Actual Paper Jams

  • Even if the printer works fine with your old machine, double-check for any actual paper jams or obstructions inside the printer. Remove any jammed paper carefully and ensure there are no small scraps left behind.

2. Clear the Print Queue

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause issues. Clear the print queue:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Click on your OfficeJet 4655 and select Open Queue.
    • Cancel any pending print jobs.

3. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Even if the drivers are up to date, reinstalling them can help:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your OfficeJet 4655 and click Remove device.
    • Go to the HP website to download the latest drivers for Windows 11 and reinstall them.

4. Check Printer Settings

  • Make sure that the printer is set as the default printer.
  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and ensure the OfficeJet 4655 is the default.

5. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can help diagnose and fix common printing issues.
    • You can find it on the HP support website.

6. Update Windows 11

  • Ensure that your Windows 11 installation is fully up to date. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues with printers.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

8. Check USB Connection or Network Settings

  • If you’re using a USB connection, try a different USB port or cable.
  • If the printer is networked, ensure it’s still connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your new computer.

9. Factory Reset the Printer

  • If the issue persists, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the printer manual for instructions on how to do this, as it may vary by model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
