Hi @fred8135,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One printer usually indicates an issue with the printhead, which is responsible for transferring ink onto paper. Here are steps you can follow to resolve the issue.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Remove and Reseat the Printhead

  • Open the printer's access door to access the ink cartridges.
  • Remove all the ink cartridges.
  • Carefully lift the latch on the printhead and remove the printhead.
  • Reinsert the printhead firmly, ensuring it's seated properly.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges.
  • Close the access door and check if the issue is resolved.

Clean the Printhead Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer and carefully remove the printhead.
  • Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water, gently wipe the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer where the printhead sits.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the printhead and ink cartridges.
  • Plug the printer back in, power it on, and try printing again.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP website or using the HP Smart app.

Replace the Printhead

  • If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, the printhead might be damaged or malfunctioning. You may need to replace the printhead. Check on the HP website to purchase a replacement printhead (HP part number: CN643A) compatible with the Officejet Pro 8610.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
