Hi @Suzanne64,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is not printing blue, while other colors are working. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot this issue.

Check Ink Levels

Open the printer software or control panel and verify that the cyan or color cartridge isn’t empty or very low.

Even if the cartridge shows ink, it can sometimes be clogged or dried out.

Run Print Head Cleaning

Your printer has a print head cleaning utility.

In Windows, go to HP Smart → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead.

You may need to run the cleaning cycle 2–3 times for stubborn clogs.

Print a Test Page

Print a diagnostic or test page from the printer menu.

If blue is missing on the test page, it confirms a print head or cartridge problem.

Check Cartridge Seating

Open the cartridge access door and ensure the cyan/color cartridge is properly seated.

Remove and reinsert it to make sure the connection is firm.

Check for Clogs or Dry Ink

If cleaning doesn’t help, remove the color cartridge and gently wipe the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.

Avoid touching the nozzles directly.

Try Another Cartridge

If the problem persists, the cartridge itself may be defective. Replacing it with a new HP cartridge often fixes missing colors.

Firmware & Software Update

Make sure the printer firmware and drivers are up to date.

Go to HP’s website and install the latest driver for Windows 11.

I hope this helps.
