It took a while; I was able to confirm the printer should be able to handle 260 gsm photo paper media weight.

Media TypesPlain Paper, HP Photo Papers, HP Matte Brochure or Professional Paper, HP Matte Presentation Paper, HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper, Other Photo Inkjet Papers, Other Matte Inkjet Papers, Other Glossy Inkjet Papers, Inkjet Hagaki, Plain Paper, Thick, Plain Paper, Light/Recycled
Media Weight Recommended (imperial)16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card)
Media Weight Recommended (metric)60 to 105 g/m² (plain); 220 to 280 g/m² (photo); 75 to 90 g/m² (envelope); 163 to 200 g/m² (card)
Media Weights Supported, By Paper Path (Imperial)Plain paper: 16 to 28 lb, Bond
Media Weights Supported, By Paper Path (metric)Plain paper: 60 to 105 g/m²

Other factors that can impact whether the printer handles the paper, including:

Printer

Printer might be dirty and / or in need of maintenance.  If so, the thicker paper and photo media types are sometimes the first to indicate there is a problem.

This is a common issue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Media

The Media type is not correctly selected in the software used to submit the job to the printer.  Normally the printer catches Media errors and fails to print.

If the mistake is not caught by the software the "wrong" paper type can get caught in the printer rollers.

This is a common issue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paper

The actual paper is not compatible in some way:

  • Too damp, too dry (brittle), curled, print side incorrectly loaded (usually causes a completely different issue), poorly constructed (cheap paper).
  • Wrong type - Laser Printers use different paper than do Inkjet printers (the most common printer type).

"Paper is the problem" is less common but certainly possible.

Trouble spots might be indicated:

  • Paper is incorrectly stored - Photo paper is delicate and must be stored as indicated on the packaging.
  • Paper is of uncertain quality - Not all paper is created equal.  HP Printers are tolerant of most high-grade brands of photo paper.  It is possible, though, that not all brands are compatible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Software

The software used to submit the job may be incorrect, corrupted, in some way unsuitable for the job type.
