I changed my home router and cannot connect my HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 Series printer to the new network.   The screen to reset the printer is locked.  I  get the message, “ this feature has been locked, touch unlock to unlock this feature.  It asks for a username and password.  I don't remember adding either to this printer and I have no idea what it could be.

Is there a way of reset / removing this from my printer?  I need to connect the printer to the new router.

thank you

@mrwendling,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 Series printer has an Administrator lock enabled, which requires a username and password to make changes, including connecting to a new WiFi network. Since you don’t remember setting this up, you'll need to reset the printer to remove the lock.

Reset Options to Unlock the Printer

Try Default Credentials

  1. Username: admin
  2. Password: Try leaving it blank or using admin or 123456

If this doesn’t work, proceed to a Semi-Full Reset.

Perform a Semi-Full Reset

This will restore the printer to factory settings, including removing the administrator lock.

Steps to Reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the WiFi and Back (⟲) buttons on the control panel.
  5. While holding the buttons, plug the printer back in.
  6. Keep holding the buttons until you see the HP logo or the reset process starts.
  7. The printer should now be unlocked, and you can set up WiFi again.

Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If your printer is still connected to your old router (or an Ethernet cable), you can try resetting the password via a browser.

  1. Get the printer’s IP address (found in Settings > Network Setup).
  2. Type the IP address into a web browser on your computer.
  3. Go to Settings > Security > Administrator Settings.
  4. Reset the password or disable the lock.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
