Hi @squirlyworly,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your printer is showing an "Error state" message, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Printer Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer. If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Restart Both Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve many technical issues. Try turning off both your printer and computer, then turn them back on after a minute or two.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions: Open the printer and check for any paper jams, foreign objects, or obstructions that may be preventing the printer from working properly. Clear any jams or obstructions carefully.

Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause communication issues between your computer and printer. Go to the printer HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install them on your computer and see if it resolves the issue.

Restart Print Spooler Service: Sometimes, restarting the print spooler service can help. Here's how to do it:

  • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type "services.msc" and press Enter.
  • In the Services window, scroll down and locate the "Print Spooler" service.
  • Right-click on it and select "Restart".
  • After restarting the service, try printing again.

Check Ink or Toner Levels: If your printer is low on ink or toner, it may not be able to print. Check the ink or toner levels and replace them if necessary.

Run Printer Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help diagnose and fix printer-related issues. You can access them by going to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Printer > Run the troubleshooter.

Reset Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your printer to its factory settings. Refer to your printer's manual or the hp website for instructions on how to reset it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
