Microsoft Windows 11

HP 6458 printer. I send jobs that don't print. I have to unplug and replug all the time. I get little popups that say "your printer needs attention" whatever that means.

Hi @pookie21west ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issues you're experiencing with your HP ENVY Pro 6458 All-in-One Printer could stem from various causes, such as driver issues, connectivity problems, or a printer configuration error. Below are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this problem:

1. Restart Devices

  • Turn off your printer, computer, and router.
  • Wait for 2 minutes and turn the devices back on.
  • Try printing again.

2. Check for Errors on the Printer

  • Look at the printer's control panel or screen for any error messages or blinking lights.
    • If there's a specific error code, let me know for further guidance.

3. Ensure Printer Is Set as Default

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP ENVY Pro 6458 and click Manage.
  • Choose Set as Default.
  • Ensure the status reads Ready.

4. Clear Print Queue

  • Open the Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel all pending jobs in the queue.

5. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your printer.
  • Uninstall the existing driver:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, locate your HP printer software, and uninstall it.
  • Reinstall the downloaded driver and follow the prompts.

6. Run the Printer Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Printer Troubleshooter and follow the instructions.

7. Check Connectivity

  • Wireless Connection: Ensure the printer and computer are on the same WiFi network.
    • Use the HP Smart App to reconnect your printer to WiFi if necessary.
  • USB Connection: Ensure the cable is securely connected.

8. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Open the HP Smart App on your computer.
  • Look for an option to update the printer firmware.

9. Disable Power Save Features

  • Go to the printer’s settings via the control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • Disable sleep or power-saving modes.

10. Test Printing

  • Print a test page to confirm the issue is resolved:
    • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select your printer and click Manage > Print a test page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
