Hi @KLaFont,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP printer is having trouble connecting to the internet, which could be affecting its ability to print. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot.

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected via USB.
  • Verify that the printer is selected as the default printer on your HP laptop.

Check Internet Connection:

  • Even though you’re using a USB connection, some printers require an internet connection for certain features or updates. Make sure your printer is connected to the internet.

Install or Update Drivers:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install or update the drivers on your laptop.

Printer Software:

  • Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant (depending on your printer model) on your laptop. Check for any alerts or issues and follow the recommended steps.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • If your printer has a network configuration menu, try resetting the network settings and reconnecting.

Check Printer Status in Windows:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners and check if your printer appears and is set as default. If it shows as offline, try setting it online.

Run Printer Troubleshooter:

  • On Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Printer and run the troubleshooter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
