I have a Samsung  ML-1861,  M/C ML-1861/XEV, S/N [Personal Information Removed] and macOS Sonoma 14.7.2

Is there a solution to install the driver on this version of the OS?

Please help.

Hi

Sorry, forgot to ask. What is the name of generic driver or generic PostScript in the list of drivers? What to do if these drivers are not in the list of drivers?

Thanks, have a nice day.

Hi @xbxxvxbxbxbbx

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To install the Samsung ML-1861 printer on macOS Sonoma (14.7.2), you may encounter a few challenges because Samsung printers, including the ML-1861, were acquired by HP, and Samsung no longer provides direct support for its printers. However, you can still install the driver for your printer by following these steps.

Steps to Install Samsung ML-1861 Printer on macOS Sonoma:

1. Check for HP Drivers

Since Samsung printers are now managed by HP, the official drivers for your printer might be available through HP’s website.

  • Go to the HP Support page for Samsung Printers.
  • Search for your Samsung ML-1861 printer.
  • Download the latest drivers for macOS, and try installing them.

Note: Sometimes, HP may not have direct support for older Samsung printers on newer macOS versions. If this is the case, try the following options.

2. Use Built-in macOS Printer Drivers

macOS often includes generic drivers that can work with many printers, even if the manufacturer doesn’t provide a specific driver for your model. You can try adding the printer using macOS’s built-in printer drivers.

Steps:

  1. Connect your printer to your Mac using USB or Wi-Fi (if supported).
  2. Go to System Settings (or System Preferences depending on your version).
  3. Click on Printers & Scanners.
  4. Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
  5. In the printer list, select the Samsung ML-1861. If it doesn't appear, try using a USB cable and make sure the printer is powered on.
  6. If the Samsung printer doesn’t show up directly, macOS will often attempt to use a generic driver such as “Samsung ML-1860 Series” or another generic PostScript driver.
  7. Once selected, click Add to complete the setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi

The Samsung ML-1861 doesn't appear in the printer list, but list have the Samsung ML-1860 Series. Unfortunately, it does not work. The printer is working and works perfectly on another computer with Windows 10Pro OS. Tomorrow I will try again to do the operation you recommended. I downloaded many drivers from Samsung and HP and i am trying to substitute them for  the Samsung ML-1860 Series.  Unfortunately, without success, the printer prints an error saying that a suitable driver must be installed.

Thanks for the help

Have a nice day.
