What happens when you power off your computer and then power it on? does the printer come back to ready in that case? This behaviour commonly occurs when using a network connected printer on a WSD port for the driver. WSD ports are notorious for dropping the connection to printers and requiring a restart. If network attached you are better off using a Standard TCP/IP port. There is an article in the knowledge base on how to do this.
