I haven't used my laptop in a few years so I clearly forgotten my password in attempt to reset it I had to go to the website, once I've changed my password successfully my laptop still says its the wrong password.. I've tried the factory reset by using shift+power then restart on the lockscreen and clicked on the factory reset option after clicking troubleshoot it'll then load and pop up a password screen I then type in the password that I just changed it to and it still doesn't work so I can't factory reset my laptop, I've power restarted my laptop to see if its just being slow.. still nothing, I've tried to find helpful videos on how to fix this issue but nothing seems so work how could I fix this?

@GhostlyAbi Is that a Microsoft or a local account?
Meanwhile, HP recommends using a Microsoft account for signing into Windows. Using a Microsoft account offers many benefits, including easy password recovery. If you currently have a local user account, consider switching to a Microsoft account after recovering or changing your current password. Go to Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 10) for more information.
NOTE:If you cannot sign in with your original password, make sure caps lock is not on and the keyboard layout matches your country/region. If available, use other methods to sign in, such as a password hint, PIN, or a picture password.

If none of the above helps, you may need to use the HP recovery media:
If you don't have an HP Recovery media and have attempted reset using the windows troubleshooter or a retail copy of windows, you'll need to order a recovery media: Click here for steps Or you may also attempt to download the same using the steps on this link: click here
