Pages are now coming out solid black.

Haven't tried printing anything containing color, because toner is going fast with this problem!

Web searches all say it's fuser unit, but I need detailed information so I can order the correct parts. Since I do lots of technical repairs, I plan to install myself, if possible.

Thanks in advance,

Allen

Post a sample please. A solid black page is most often caused by a bad drum contact or bad high voltage board. The fuser simply bonds whatever toner the printer has put on the page.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I'm not sure what kind of sample you are referring to. A page that is solid black is not something I can post, but I could post a photo of such a page. Would that help?

It does sound like the high voltage board, but it would be great if there is some way to check for a "bad drum contact".  The printer gets only very light use, so perhaps it is just a bad connection to the drum. Maybe re-seating the cartridge is worth a try. I'll try that, and if it fails, it will generate a nice dense black page for me to photograph and post.

Thanks.

I see that the toner contacts are on the front, so I made sure the contacts are all clean, reseated the black cartridge, and printed a page of black text. It's still 100% coverage solid black, edge to edge (with about 1/8" top, left, and right, and full bleed at the bottom (at least I think it's the bottom edge)).

The grey areas are just sheen from the overhead lighting. The entire page is pretty dense black.

Thanks for helping with this trouble-shooting. Any further tests or suggestions would be much appreciated.

So, this is probably the high voltage supply, yes?

Is there a good source of information on how to replace this component? I assume it's readily available from parts distros.

Thanks,

Allen

Anyone? Repairatrooper?

I haven't found much online for the high voltage board (?), so any guidance would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Allen
