Samsung MultiXpress 8240 hanging on "starting server" during startup.

I have a Samsung MultiXpress 8240 printer that can't seem to get passed the boot-up phase on the display. It prints just fine via ethernet and usb, but I can't use any screen functions as well as can't access the web based server (I think this is the service it's getting stuck on loading). I was going to upgrade the firmware (since I can't access the web interface or use the display screen), but I don't know how to manually install the firmware. I can get to the firmware download mode by pressing '*0#' but not sure where to go from there (I placed the new firmware on a usb and plugged it in, but nothing happened).

Any advice is appreciated!

The culprit was a failed hard drive. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the printer image/software to reload it so I had to call in a tech. Very disappointed with HP support on this one - absolutely useless!

Thank you so much for that hint. I would never have thought of that idea. REALLY appreciate that! Is there any proprietary operating system on that defective hard drive, or can I just replace the old HDD with a new one, without help of a tech?

Thank you very much for your post! I checked the list, and I couldn't find my printer model SCX-8240. So, I wouldn't dare to use one of the HDD-files provided at this FTP-Server. Do you know if there is a FTP-folder with files for the SCX-8240? 

The PDF shows how to enter a repair mode. Maybe that will work on our printer. I'll test this tomorrow morning as first thing.

I gain more and more knowledge, thank you! If I could find the recovery software for our printer, this would be really perfect!
