disable fax so the printer does not answer voice phone calls without unplugging telephone cord

when telephone line plugged into printer the printer answers the phone with fax signal. is there a setting on the printer to disable the fax signal or do i need to constantly unplug the phone ,line

Check the fax setup to see if there is a manual mode. That will disable automatic fax answer and you need to press start when a fax comes in.
