I bought a gently used Samsung ML-2510 laser printer.  My Mac - mojave OS 10.14 -  recognizes the printer (have it connected vis USB) but I cannot get it to print.  I can hold down the button on top of printer and it prints page of the printer information.  However, I cannot print anything from Word, excel, etc.  

 

Also, I did not get the disks that came with the printer.  I went to HP's site and downloaded the driver...it will not recognize the printer is connected via the USB.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you have the printer connected before running the install? If so, that might be part of the problem. Disconnect the printer, run the install and connect the printer when prompted to.

Thank you for responding!  I downloaded the printer driver from the HP site as they now own Samsung printers.  When following the prompts, the directions state that I needed to temporarily connect the printer to my computer using the USB cable to proceed with installation.  I cannot use WIFI because I don't have the password that was originally used with this printer.  When the setup continues, I get an error message that the setup was unable to detect any printers and communicate with printer - to check that the USB cable is connected.  

 

I can manually add the printer to my mac by going to system preferences.  However, when I finishing setting up the preferences, it asks for a driver and does not the 2510 model.  I tried using a different model #, got it to print but it printed an "internal error - false" message.  

 

Any thoughts?

I finally got it working!!!  I just started trial and error of selecting different printer options from the MAC driver options and finally found the one that worked - ML 1630   

 

Why this one works is beyond me, but I just did my little happy dance!!!!
