Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Him,

my 2540 printer will print but when I try to scan it's telling me the printer is offline ?

@Gled, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

 

To assist you better, are you trying to scan from the HP Smart app?

If you are able to print from the same app, it means the printer and the connectivity is fine.

 

Restart the router, the printer, and the PC

Try scanning.

 

Make sure the app is up to date or you may reinstall it from the Microsoft Store and check if that helps.
