Yes, HP Deskjet F4580 can scan document to Mac OS X 10.6. The HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers available here contains the HP Scan application, which can be used to scan documents/photos. You may also use Image Capture to Scan documents/photos, refer to this document for instructions on how to scan using Image Capture.

My bad, my operating system on Mac desktop is OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.5 not 10.6. Will my HP Officejet J4580 able to scan? Printer states no scan options. Will it work and can it be set up? If so, I need some help in the steps to set up the scan option. Thanks

Yes, you can scan using HP Deskjet F4580 printer on Mac OS X 10.10. You may use HP Easy Scan application or Image Capture to Scan documents/photos. You can download HP Easy Scan from here.
