I'm wondering, since when I called HP they can't assist because they no longer mfg. my printer model, if anyone can give me suggestions on how to fix my fax problem.  When I typed in the fax number, I received the message "Unable to send or receive faxes" with the header title of "Fax Failure.  When I did the fax Set Up Wizard, it told me "The printers component has become damaged & cannot perform the fax test."  All the other functions of my printer work except for the fax & I hate to spend the money on a new printer for a feature I enjoy having, but rarely use (but it is a nice feature to still be able to have access to).  I also ran the HP Print & Scan Dr 5.6.4 & received several error messages:  device mgr. error, driver error, WIA error & registry error, which I was given the option with this error message to uninstall (which I didn't do) or to simply skip, which that's what I chose to do.  The HP rep also told me during my phone call that since my printer is dated, they don't have any updates to provide me for a download to fix my issue.  Any help anyone can suggest is appreciated.  Thanks 🙂

@killrnails, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to use the fax feature. According to the error message, it looks like the fax component is damaged/failed.

This is a hardware issue. Print and Scan Doctor can only fix software issues.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
