@GJWYRSCH08, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Did you download the HP Smart app from the App Store or the HP Support site?

Remove and reinstall the app from the App Store and try scanning.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

If the issue persists with the HP Smart app, use the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store to scan.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply.  I have Updated MAC and deleted the HP Smart App and tried to reload.  However, it continues to offer only the "HP Smart App for Desktops" from the Cloud.  Isn't that just reloading the same app I had before?  Document Feeder with resulting scanned document has worked for over a year on HP Smart, but just stopped last week and do not know of any precipitating event.  Again, the feeder feeds docs, but does not produce any scanned document on the computer.  Scanning single document from flatbed does work on HP Smart. Reloading HP Smart and going to Settings results in being told I'm blocked by "administrator".  Do not have Id or password to perform system diagnostics.  Where can I get those?

If you are not aware of the printer credentials, we will have to perform a factory reset.

I have sent you a private message with a set of instructions to perform a reset. Kindly check the same, this might help you to resolve this issue. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Did you try the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store to scan?

Keep me posted.

I do not have original docs from printer for credential.  Have Model No. and Serial No.  Don't recall setting up admin profile or password for this unit.  I performed the reset and got the same "Blocked by Administrator" message from Advanced Settings on HP Smart.  Says id/password will be sent, but never see it.  Is there a default ID/Password?  Should reset give me opportunity to set New ID/Password?

If the issue persists even after performing the reset, I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
