HP photosmart 6520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recent Windows update and scanner gave the "HP 6520 series was not found message" . This was after I had gone onto HP website and had the HP print and scan Dr. Diagnostics run.  I checked and have the newest updated drivers.   But still not scanning.

Hi @Dancinsue1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "unable to scan" issue.

What is the error you're receiving when you try and scan?

Are you able to make copies using the printer?

Meanwhile, try the suggested steps -

Install or update HP Scan

Make sure you have the latest version of the printer software, and then make sure your printer is connected to your computer with a USB cable or on a local network.

  1. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.

  2. Type your printer model, and then click Download next to the full feature driver under Driver-Product Installation Software.

    Click Download next to the full feature driver

  3. Follow the guided setup instructions to connect the printer.

  4. After the software installs, search Windows for HP, and then select your printer to open HP Printer Assistant.

    NOTE:

    If HP Printer Assistant does not download with your printer software, go to What other scanning methods or apps are available in Frequently asked questions (FAQs).

  5. On the Scan tab, click Scan a Document or Photo to open HP Scan

Try the suggested steps in the document - How to Scan (Windows)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Scan still not working.   As already posted, when I go into my HP and click scan it reports "device not found" .  When I try to scan from my HP 6520 it reports "make sure Scan to Computer is enabled via print software"

I have no printing or copy issues.

Install HP Scan and capture on your computer to use the scanning function.

Or else, we can uninstall the drivers and reinstall them

 Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

  1. earch Windows for your printer model name, and click the printer name in the list of results. HP Printer Assistant opens.
  2. Click Scanner Actions, and then click Manage Scan to Computer.
  3. Click Enable to activate the scan to computer option.
