I am trying to copy a crossword puzzle out of the newspaper and the printer (color laserjet pro m283cbw) always picks up the grey background of the newspaper.  I’ve never had the issue with other printers and just need any suggestions on how to just copy with the newsprint only.  Or reduce the background to be very light.  
any help appreciated

HP Recommended

There is usually a background cleanup setting and you want to turn that to maximum when scanning from thin paper like newsprint. Also setting it to text scanning mode instead of picture or mixed will also help.
