When copying documents using the feeder, a thin (1-2mm) black line appears on the left side of the page, sometimes two. This does not happen when using the flatbed. I have talked with HP support who walked me through all the control panel functions in attempt to remedy the problem with no success. This problem appeared within months of installing (April 2018) the device.

Because it only happens when using the document feeder, it seems reasonable to conclude that some aspect of the mechanical paper transport is causing this issue. Whether the culprit is dirt or even static electricity, it renders this function useless. I have to copy multiple pages one at a time using the flatbed, not fun!

It seems excessive to have to replace a $400 printer simply because HP cannot figure out the cause and provide a remedy.

Any ideas???

A black streak when scanning from the ADF but clean when scanning from glass is 95% of the time caused by debris or contamination of the scanner glass. The challenge is that even tiny specs of post-it note adhesive that is virtually invisible to the naked eye can cause distortion of the scanning light and give you black lines.

Thank you so much for bringing this information to my attention. Unfortunately, none of the 3 cleaning steps solved the problem. I am still getting the same black streak down the left side of the page. I am at a loss what to do next. It would seem the source of the problem is elsewhere.
